New Elastomer Resin Catalyst

April 16, 2024
Recently, U.S. Equistar Chemical Company and Proctor & Gamble (P&G) have reached an agreement on the joint development and industrialization of a novel metallocene catalyst that can be used to produce propane-based elastomer resins. According to the agreement, Equita will acquire the metallocene catalyst technology of Proctor & Gamble, and will cooperate in the commercial production of this elastomer resin. Proctor & Gamble Company has spent 3 years on this technology.
With this new technology, homopolypropylenes with elastomeric resin properties can be obtained for the first time. This material can be used in packaging, medical hygiene, nonwoven fabrics, automotive interiors, construction, household goods, and wire and cable. Equita stated that there is currently no elastomeric resin of the same type on the market. Although the technology is still in the initial development stage, it has obtained a product with good performance. Proctor & Gamble believes that through the cooperation with Equita, it will accelerate the commercialization of the technology and it is expected that new products will be available within the next two or three years.
