The fluorocarbon resin refers to a copolymer of a fluorine-containing olefin such as tetrafluoroethylene (TFE), vinyl fluoride (VF), or vinylidene fluoride (VDF), or copolymerization with other monomers and side chain inclusion thereof. The molecular structure obtained by self-polymerization or copolymerization of a monomer of a fluorocarbon chemical bond contains a resin of a type similar to a C-F bond.
The fluorocarbon resin coating refers to a coating based on a fluorocarbon resin, and also includes a coating modified with other resins. Due to the presence of c-F bonds in the macromolecular chain of fluorocarbon resins, fluororesin coatings based on fluororesin have many unique properties, such as super weathering resistance and super chemical resistance. Fluorocarbon resin coatings have been successfully used in construction, petrochemical, railway, road and military applications. Fluorocarbon coating is a full-featured, ultra-durable decorative protective coating that resists fading, blooming, cracking, chalking, rust and air pollution, environmental damage, and chemical attack. The development of fluorocarbon coatings has mainly experienced stages such as melting type, solvent soluble type, crosslinkable curing type and waterborne fluorocarbon coating.
A. Molten Fluorocarbon Coatings Melt-type fluorocarbon coatings, also known as high-temperature baking fluorocarbon coatings, are the first fluorocarbon coatings. PTFE, PVF, PVDF, etc. can be made into molten fluorocarbon coatings. Commonly used molten fluororesins and their properties are shown in Table 3-10.
These fluorocarbon resins are excellent in weather resistance, solvent resistance and high temperature resistance, but they must be baked and melted at high temperatures before they can be used. They are only suitable for factory coating, not suitable for on-site construction, and have a narrow application range. The factory produces rice cookers, high temperature resistant aluminum sheets, steel plates, etc.
B. Solvent-soluble fluorocarbon coatings Solvent-soluble fluorocarbon coatings are new varieties of fluorocarbon coatings developed on the basis of hot-melt coatings. The coating can be formed at a low temperature or even at a normal temperature, and its application range is further expanded. It uses a plurality of fluorine-containing monomers to copolymerize with an olefin monomer having a pendant group to prepare a solvent-soluble fluorocarbon coating such as a VDF/TFE/HFP copolymer or a VF2/HFP copolymer. These coatings reduce the baking temperature and increase the solubility in the solvent, can form a film at a lower temperature, and the application surface is enlarged.
C. Crosslinkable Curable Fluorocarbon Coating The crosslinkable curable fluorocarbon coating refers to a functional group such as a hydroxyl group or a carboxyl group introduced into a fluororesin to be crosslinked and cured with an isocyanate, a melamine or an amino resin. The crosslinkable curable fluorocarbon coating is mainly a hydroxy vinyl ether copolymer (PFEVE) coating.
D. Water-based fluorocarbon coating With the strengthening of environmental awareness, water-based coatings will become one of the mainstream products in the 21st century. Therefore, waterborne carbon coatings have become a hot spot in coating research today.
Aqueous fluorocarbon coatings are generally prepared by copolymerization of a fluorine-containing olefin, a vinyl ether, a carboxyl group-containing compound, and a water-soluble amino resin. At present, there are many studies on chlorotrifluoroethylene copolymer coatings, tetrafluoroethylene copolymer coatings, and vinylidene fluoride copolymer materials. Reducing the film formation temperature of water-based fluorocarbon coatings is a hot topic.
At present, the film forming temperature of PFEVE latex of Asahi Glass Co., Ltd. is 35-50 °C, and the research on waterborne fluorocarbon coatings in China is also developing rapidly.
