With the increase in people's demand for transportation, the demand for fuel efficiency is getting higher and higher. Coupled with the increasingly stringent fire safety regulations, the resin for composite materials used in public transportation (abbreviated as composite resin) will change. In a recently published study, US growth consulting firm Frost & Sullivan predicts that in the future European composite resins will have great potential for development in the public transportation industry.
European market will develop rapidly
Europe has a very good public transport system, and the government is still sparing no effort to improve the public transport system. Road congestion, environmental pollution, and other factors associated with private cars, along with rising oil prices, will push the European transport industry by 3% to 4%. The average annual growth rate.
Increasing fuel efficiency requirements and increasingly stringent environmental regulations have prompted the growing use of composite resins in public transportation. Composite resins are much lighter than common metal materials, and with this advantage, composite resins are rapidly replacing metal materials in public transportation.
At the same time, European regulations on the use of fire, smoke, and drunken driving have led to the rapid development of some composite resin markets. For example, phenolic resin as a fire-retardant material will increase in usage. Composite resin has a good environmental protection, short manufacturing time, strong anti-corrosion, light weight and long service life, will develop rapidly in the European market.
The unfavorable factor faced by European composite resins is that the price of composite resin raw materials is closely related to oil prices and other energy prices. If the cost of crude oil rises, the cost of composite resins will also increase, which is not conducive to market development.
Thermosetting resin dominates
Composite resins are generally classified into two types, thermoplastic and thermosetting. Thermoplastic resins have the property of being softened by heat, cooled and hardened, and have no chemical reaction. This performance can be maintained regardless of how many times heating and cooling are repeated. The most common thermoplastic resins include polycarbonate, polyamide, polypropylene, and polyethylene. The thermosetting resin undergoes a chemical reaction under heating, pressure, or under the action of a curing agent and ultraviolet light, and is crosslinked and cured into insoluble and infusible substances. This reaction is irreversible and, once cured, it cannot be softened or flowed again by repressurization and heating. The most common thermosetting resins are epoxy resins, phenolic resins, polyethyl acetate, and aminoplasts.
In the current European composite resin market, thermosetting resins dominate. In 2010, the total revenue of the European composite resin market was approximately 74 million euros. Among them, thermosetting resins account for 95%, and thermoplastic resins only 5%. The thermosetting resin market revenue increased by 18.5% from 2009 to more than 70 million euros. Experts expect the market to continue to grow at an average annual growth rate of 7.2% to reach 115 million euros by 2017. The thermoplastic resin market revenue increased by 5.6% compared to 2009 to 3.5 million euros. It is expected that the average annual growth rate in the next few years will be 7.4%, reaching 5.7 million euros in 2017.
Composite resins have many advantages, such as light weight, strong plasticity, short production time, environmental protection, corrosion resistance, ability to be recycled, long service life, etc., but there are also some deficiencies, such as high initial cost, more difficult to design than traditional metals. Composite resin is widely used in public transportation. It can be used internally to make public vehicle wall panels, window frames, partitions, floors, ceilings, decks, luggage racks, seats, doors, etc. Equipment, debris shields, tunnel reinforcement plates, fish plates, etc.
To make the market bigger from six aspects
Frost & Sullivan finally pointed out that if European composite resin manufacturers further develop, they need to do better in the following six aspects.
One is to optimize product performance to make it more cost-effective and environmentally friendly than metals such as aluminum and iron. The second is to achieve a reliable profit through backward integration and capture of the market to reduce costs; the third is to expand. Product range, increase the number of different types of products, compared with providing one-stop solutions to help customers, companies should provide a series of products to make the program more synergistic; the fourth is to annex other companies, which is to expand the product range The fifth method is to expand geographically. The increase in demand in the Asian market is the main reason for the expansion of enterprises. Enterprises need to establish a good strategic partnership with the region in order to better enter the market and obtain a firm position. The sixth is to focus on Environmental protection, improve product recyclability, and reduce organic compound emissions.
