DSM Neo-Resin - a specialist in life sciences and materials sciences, the Resin Business Unit of the Royal DSM Group, the world's leading specialty resin supplier for coatings and inks, today announced that it will implement a new investment plan to further expand Its resin business in the Chinese market. The plan includes improving the research and development capabilities of new products to effectively promote the implementation of DSM's water-based strategy and also to contribute to the sustainable development of the Chinese economy. The DSM Group plans to increase its sustainable products ratio from the current 35% to 50% by 2015, and these investments will also help achieve this goal.
At the press conference of DSM Likang Resin held during the China International Coatings Show 2010 (September 27-29), Mr. Pascalde Sain, Director of Wood & Plastics Business, DSM Recon, and DSM Resin Mr. Qi Zhonghua, the general manager of China, introduced the above development plan and explained the water-based strategy that DSM is currently pushing forward with the theme of “the solution is as simple as water”. This is a sign that DSM will lead and accelerate the transformation of the coatings and printing inks from solvent-based to water-based solutions. This shift will effectively reduce harmful volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions and have a significant positive impact on improving the environment.
Pascalde Sain said: "At present, China is rapidly shifting to a more sustainable direction. DSM has also been committed to promoting this transformation. We are increasing our investment and continuing to upgrade our current production capacity. To produce more high-end water-based products. At the same time, we are also increasing the research and development capabilities of our local sustainable coatings development team to achieve a strategic shift from 'Made in China' to 'China's own design and development'. The release of the Siman Waterborne Strategic Themes will show the industry that the transition from solvent-based to water-based is not as complicated and expensive as many people think. In fact, this shift is very simple because the industry has the right Effective technology."
Last year, DSM implemented several projects to promote the sustainable development of the coatings, adhesives and printing ink markets. Among them, the most noteworthy is that DSM has joined forces with industry-related companies to establish an industry pioneer organization, Waterborne Platform (China) (WBCP). This year, DSM Likang Resin has established a joint development cooperation agreement with Beijing Yulin Chemical Co., Ltd. and Jiangmen Sifang Weikai Fine Chemical Co., Ltd. to lead water-based solutions in public transportation and other targeted industries. Development has laid a solid foundation.
At the same time, the Chinese government is actively fulfilling its commitment to sustainable development and has successively issued a number of policies. The Ministry of Environmental Protection has listed nitrocellulose (NC) coatings with a VOC content of over 75% in the “high pollution, high environmental risk” double-high product catalogue, and listed waterborne wood coatings as one of the recommended environmentally friendly products. The State Administration of Work Safety also issued a notice requesting relevant national enterprises to control the high-toxic substances in the wood furniture manufacturing industry.
Zhai Zhonghua, general manager of DSM Likang Resin Greater China, said: “DSM has laid a solid foundation in waterborne coating technology and is fully prepared to lead the entire industry to accelerate the transition from solvent-based to water-based products. Government-related industry laws The introduction of the specification will give greater impetus to the successful implementation of our water-based strategy."
As part of DSM's commitment to sustainable development, DSM Likang Resin has been hosting the DSM Resins Asia Sustainability Award since 2008 and has sponsored the Best Paper Award for three consecutive years at the China Coatings Show. "To recognize and encourage units and individuals that promote the sustainable development of the coatings industry in the academic and commercial fields." The company that won the "DSM Resin Asia Sustainability Award" is the industry's leading supplier of wood furniture coatings, Shanghai Meike Coating Co., Ltd., which successfully realized the strategic transformation to waterborne products.
