GE Advanced Materials added three biocompatible PC resins, Lexan HPX8R, HPX4, and HP1HF. Within a certain range, the new resin is similar to the standard PC resin except that it has retort sterilization and low migration.
Lexan HPX8R and Lexan HPX4 are copolymers that provide good flowability without the use of additives compared to other resins. In addition, the resin has good lubricating properties, making it easy to demold, and has high flow properties; high impact properties; resistance to repeated cleaning; good hydrolytic stability and low temperature ductility. Potential applications include: surgical equipment, personal kits, delivery devices, and surveillance detectors.
Lexan HP1HF resin has good processability, excellent flowability (melt flow rate of melt mass 37 g/10min) and hydrolytic stability; the biocompatibility provided by the resin makes it comply with FDA food packaging requirements.
